One of my favorite {and most daunting} parts of wedding planning has been our paper products. A dear friend, Carly, offered to design our invitations and such as a wedding present. It has been such a blessing! It is so great to custom design our paperwork to optimally capture the mood of our wedding. But custom paperwork is not without its challenges. Conveying my desires to my friend is especially difficult when I don't necessariliy know myself! And trying to meet extremely tight deadlines within a short engagement.
After a flurry of emails and phone calls back and forth, my friend Carly and I had narrowed down the design to two options: a Mexican Papal Picado theme or a Scandinavian Berggren Traynor folk art theme. Quite the opposites, huh? It was SO hard choosing between the two designs! We finally settled on Breggren Traynor theme and Carly got down and dirty designing.
The hardest part of going the custom route is having to produce all the copy. Carly was putting together custom graphics, color options, and fonts but she was relying wholly on me to provide wording for each piece. Thankfully I had a secret weapon {no, not Pinterest!}. My aunt. This fab lady kept all the save the dates, invites, and programs of weddings she had attended in an old shoebox. It made it a much easier task to rummage through her collection and pick and choose a sentence here, a format there.
My printer, Cornerstone Copy, had a huge part in the success of our paper items. They worked with us relentlessly to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted within our timeline. The hardest part with working with this sort of a printer is they work within normal business hours {8-5} and I had to rely heavily on my parents who weren't tied to the typical 9 to 5 jobs. This sometimes made decisions take longer to make, but all in all it was a great experience.
Each piece turned out wonderfully and will convey a linear theme throughout the ceremony and reception. Even in the face of all the work that custom invites demanded, if given the choice, I would do it all over again!
